I believe that is her sword or katana, foreshortened. As for it being held that way, I have been told there are some techniques used with the katana held “upside down”. However, I am not very familiar with katana techniques, so I could have been lied to and wouldn’t know. Regardless, I doubt techniques like this were used as often as Hollywood would have us believe.
Lastly, FYI I do not recall coming across any such techniques for Western swords, and I am more familiar with them.
That is not waht I mean xD
I know that there techniques to use this weapon as shown, but look closely and you will see: the blade is on the thumb-oposing side of the hand when she strikes… and in Panel five it is hold “normal”
A vampire that old is bound to be ambidextrous, amirite? :p
Actually, Laila is a big fan of Musashi’s Niten-ryลซ and likes to use the daishล in combination. She prefers the katana in the right hand and the wakizashi in the left. Here she uses the wakizashi alone so it wouldn’t be unusual for her to switch hands before cleaning and sheathing.
Natural 20 on your saving throw I guess ๐
By also bragging about something I misinterpreted as an error I forgot one thing:
Damn I like this strip ๐
With different perspectives and a nice splashy bit action.
well done ๐
Ah, I had not realized you were focused on the hand switching. Sorry about that.
“cleaning and sheathing”, huh? Never thought about how vampires would clean their blades. ;D (Not that it is shown here, but that’s something that bugs me in movies: Our hero/heroine lops up baddies by the score and then just shoves their blade in the sheath. Can you imagine the god-awful mess that would be the next day with all that drying blood in there?)
Love their expressions in the 5th and 6th panel ๐
but there seems to be a glitch >:<
I am sorry to spoil the cool page, but shouldn't she hold the knife in panel 5 the other way around?

and judging by the thumb it is the other hand…..

(Nice save, huh?)

Oddly enough, yes I can. And getting inside said sheath to clean it is not easy.
